Guide Holiday

Our holiday was at Thirtover, Cold Ash. We went on the 18th of February and left on the 22nd of February 2000. 4th and 8th Maidenhead Guides went and also a few Guides from 1st Holyport.

The theme was International and we went all around the world in our slippers! We went to Australia, New Zealand, America, South Africa, China, India, Russia and back to Thirtover again. We experienced the food and culture of many different countries.

Activities

We also made lots of things from different countries like Chinese lanterns, safari mobiles, koala key rings, totam poles, Russian dolls, Elephant magnets and name holders, mugs, place mats and badges.

On the first evening we received our passports and plane tickets. We had to take these wherever we went but some (!) of us lost them.

On the Saturday evening we did a night wide game which was very challenging. We had to work our way round a course by solving clues and quite often having to perform a task to get the clue.

On Sunday two of us on the holiday went to Rivermede Leisure Centre to represent Maidenhead Guides at our County Thinking Day service. The rest of us were busy making a craft in India and then in the afternoon we held a Guides Own, a service prepared by Guides.

On Monday we made safari models in the morning and in the afternoon we made Russian dolls. In the evening we held a show where each patrol had to perform something about circus' which was very entertaining. After we had shown our performances the Guider's did a song which was very funny and we all didn't get to sleep till very late.

Tuesday was time to go home, everything was clean and spotless, the medical room and its bed had been used more frequently than ever before (!) and all the bags where packed. We went into the departing lounge for one last time and sang both verses of taps.
